It's great to see a groom as outwardly excited as Matt was on his wedding day. He was exited for good reason too - after dating for a time at Dixie College - Matt left to serve a mission. In a classic tale of "waiting for your missionary" Amy waited for 2 years as he served in the Dominican Republic. When he returned home they hit it off again like he had never been gone - rekindling their friendship and love for each other. Glad I was there to capture it - thanks guys. Nate

As you may have noticed - the date video I had shot with Gideon Photo a couple of months back was taken down. Since then we've been anxious to collaborate once again on an updated engagement photo/video. Because, Jimmy and I are good friends its a given that we and the couple are going to have some good laughs - while still taking the time to make every shot count.
Some things to know about Gideon Photo: Jimmy is not interested in just going out to shoot a bunch of pictures and hoping to bring home enough to make the client happy, but his true talent lies in his ability to capture incredible candid moments as he closely considers the couple, their personality, the location, and the lighting. Knowing how to combine the best of these elements and just being the fun guy that he is - he's able to achieve some amazing shots.
The catch phrase quality versus quantity simply applies. His work is quality and I'm glad my friend Jimmy and I are able to work together. It's rare that you'll find a Photographer who cares so much about the clients and the art that they deliver like that of Gideon Photo. Click the link and check out his work - You'll be hooked.
While dating, these two have enjoyed many trips up to Heber at the grandparents cabin. Naturally they chose this spot for their engagement video/pictures.
The old swing in the backyard on the side of the hill, four-wheeling up the mountain, and my personal favorite - the golden wheat fields. Simply amazing.
Shot along side the ever talented Lindsay Jane Photography - check out a sample of her talent below and to see the rest by CLICKING HERE. The excitment is mounting for Matt + Amy's wedding!
I love music - SO MUCH! Are you like me and ever hear a song from the past and immediately you can remember a place, time, or person? Even your senses begin to percolate and you can recall tastes and smell? Or am I just strange? Regardless of what you answer on the first two questions the last will always be yes!
I always preach that Music / Audio is video's backbone - without it - video cannot stand on its own. And Often times I will hear great songs that I can picture amazing video to - but this incredible list seems to dwindle when people ask me what song I think they should use for their video. So, I decided that I would post a few of those songs here. No worries; if you're disgusted by them and decide that you don't love them at all - even if would never consider them - the song you love is always better to use, because it will help the video bring out your own personality.
A couple of tunes I'm dying to make videos to:
Artist: Owl City Song Name: "If My Heart Was a House" Slower romantic song with some fun beat changes that gives a kick of spunk! Good for: Date and maybe Temple video for the right couple
Artist: Ms. John Soda Song Name: "Hands" Fun, Fast, and points out the back and forth relationship of Love Good for: Date video

Taylor was so excited to be married. After she came up the stairs, standing there with her new husband Josh before going out to see her family, she was shaking with excitement as she told Lindsay and I, "I don't want this moment to pass too quickly!" But as time often does in these happy times - it went by fast and we had a great time documenting it.
This is that same day edit that we filmed in the morning and had ready to play that night at the reception. Filmed in 5D Cinematic Style - enjoy!

This is the new location of Nathan Pickett Films. Conveniently placed right off of 5th south in Bountiful at 485 S 100 E. This is a much needed change as many of you were making the drive from South Salt Lake County (and further) all the way up to my home office in Layton to meet with me - thank you! Others who were coming from up North to meet with me will find that it is a nice centralized location between the two ends of the valley.
The move has been a long time in the making and has proven to be quite the task. Putting together the perfect mix of work and style all while feverishly working to finish the summer backlog.
Thanks to everyone who helped put the place together (decorating is not my forte) and a very special thanks to Lindsay Jane Photography for inviting me to office out of the same building. Lindsay is a good friend and a GREAT photographer! Consistency is her best asset and that's what you can expect from her and her studio of trained professionals - consistently great pictures. I look forward to working just footsteps away!
Its hard to imagine now, but what will be your biggest day after the wedding day is over? Can you possibly top that grand celbration?
As you can imagine, for me that day was when my sons were born. At whatever time you both decide it to be right for you and your new honey - your future will hopefully include kids.
As some of you know my future came almost 5 years after being married when my life was blessed with my twin boys! My little Sam and Eli - you'll quickly see how truly adorable they are and why snuggling them is a must! This picture was snapped by my friend from Dallas, Texas, Stephanie, with "Auburn Soul Photography". She did a great job and I wanted to share with all of you a quick glimpse of what great fun lies in store - even when they refuse to sleep all night long. Now back to the wedding day planning! :)
For your wedding, will you be having a luncheon or dinner program? If the answer is yes - you and your fiance may have possibly talked and decided that no one will be asked to speak at your program. Or you may have thought that it will just be a causal meal, with only but a few words spoken by a small number of close family members or your best friends.
In either case - if you are having a luncheon or dinner program - it is most likely that you have not thought about what is going to happen at all. And that's okay, for everyone except for the groom.
While your families may have the rest of the program covered, the groom will - 9 out of 10 times - be placed in a situation where he will be asked to say some words to those in attendance. Be prepared gentlemen, to make it count - and in addition to whatever you decide that you would like to say - make sure that they hear from you the feelings you have regarding your beautiful new wife and best friend. And also make sure that we are there to film it :) Like we were when Orrin spoke to his new sweet wife - see the video below.
Spontaneous fun - that is Kelsie and Orrin. I loved the dog that they brought along, my favorite is when dogs make that inquisitive tilting head look. And the longboards were quite unique also. By the end football was even cute - okay maybe not so much, but it was still a lot of fun. Thanks guys - can't wait till the wedding! -Nate
It may sound somewhat odd coming from a video perspective to say that music chosen for a video is just as an important as the video itself. But, it is absolutely true - Imagine your favorite movie, think of your favorite part, then imagine that scene without a soundtrack. As you think about it you may realize that the music compliments and magnifies the emotion and that it also brings to life the thoughts and feelings that are often unspoken. Annie and Jon choose an amazing song and it was my pleasure to be a part of their day - together with their wonderful photographer Rebecca Westover. -Nate
All the time you hear about that when its overcast or cloudy day it makes for much better video and pictures. Although most prefer the sunny day - which looks great - don't be discouraged if the forecast calls for overcast on your wedding day. You'll see why after watching this video, which was shot under such conditions. Thanks Matt and Lindsay - I had a great time, especially the down pour at the reception :).
Stephanie has been a friend of mine for over 5 years now. She is a very talented photographer and it was my pleasure to work along side her on this shoot. Check out her blog here. Thanks Steph.
This is a preview of a more traditional style video at the reception, which was located at the Old Meeting House. Bj, Emilee, and family you were all genuine and simply yourselves and it made the video great - and my job a lot more fun! Also, I had the privilege of shooting with Jimmy Bishop from Gideon Photography for the first time on this wedding. He does an extremely good job and it was a pleasure to work with him. Also, I found out he has two twin boys just like me. Here's to no sleep brother! Click here to see Jimmy's work.
The ceremony took place in the morning giving enough time to complete an edit to show at the reception. Congratulations to my little brother and nicole!
Some of you may have never seen or heard of a date video. We'll here it is - it's the groom and bride to be - before the wedding day - where they just go out and do the things they love to do together.
I've often thought about how cool it would have been to see a date video starring my parents or my grandparents. Tiffany and Matthew's kids and grandkids won't have to worry about that. Thanks for letting me tag along guys - it was great.
Jordan and Bonnie have known each other since they were just little kids. Their wedding was an event they had both - together - been literally looking forward to - for a very long time. This is their documentary style highlight edit.
After more than a week of sunshine - the clouds set in and the rain came down. For Chuck and Amy it didn't seem to phase them at all. It was great to work with such a classy couple. Their vintage choice of music fit their personalities perfectly. Like they were right of the 50's. Also, I was very happy to be working with Travis Gugleman an amazing photographer from Idaho. Enjoy this little snippet of their day.
Interested in a different kind of wedding highlight video? Then you'll want to watch this unique film. Shot with true film, using 8mm vintage film stock (reel to reel). This clip has not been modified to look like film--it is the genuine article.
Natural, classy, and very nostalgic. To set your video apart from the rest add "8mm vintage film stock" to your Nathan Pickett Films wedding package.
My wife took this picture with our two little 7 month old boys and sent it to me for valentines day. She is away this week visiting family, but still made sure I had something special on this day of love.
Endless possibilities at La Caille. This is an example of a traditional bridal style. Special thanks to Danny and Marisa and their talented photographer - Swensen Photography. -Nate
The same day edit! Mike and Sierra were wonderful and the sun surprised us and kept us warm on this chilly winter day. The bride and groom were so sweet to sacrifice being a couple minutes late to their luncheon to get some really cool video and pictures. This was a great shoot and I have to say that I genuinely love what I do!
A videographer that loves his camera this much? Who wouldn't want to book him for their wedding :)
The booth next to me was Smile Now!... Photobooths. This is one of the coolest new things to have at your wedding and it is so much fun! The guests to the reception can get their picture taken in it and they get a copy to take then a second copy gets put into a stack that goes to the bride and groom. Very cool!
This was all at the Canterbury Bridal Show that was this past weekend and it was a lot of fun! Thanks to all of you who stopped by and said hello. It was great to meet so many of you! Wasn't the food excellent? Thanks to the couple of brides to be that snagged me some treats before they left.
It was my pleasure to meet so many of you at the bridal shows these past couple weeks. I had so many asking what the songs were that played in the video that I am listing them here:
Artist Name: Sia - Song: Breath Me Artist Name: Mat Kearney - Song: Breath In Breath Out
Just a coincidence that they both have to do with breathing.
Remember, all bridal show specials will finish at the end of this month, so reserve your wedding date now! *send me an email for details*
