Amelia + Josh
Made for each other? It is definitely hard to say otherwise after spending an evening with these two. Mixing it up with an old Polaroid camera, we roamed the streets of downtown SLC. As soon as they suggested scaling the wall to get some video on top of an old building - it was clear - Amelia and Josh are about as spontaneous and genuine as any couple could ever be - making being "in love" - look like a lot of fun. Honestly, I can't wait for the wedding!

Austin and Kelsey: Engagement
Because the city of Las Vegas, where these two are from, is such a different lively town - probably more lively than should be allowed - we went for something more lively and different than the norm. Collaborating with Gideon Photo who is always a creative force to be reckoned with - here is the result!

Brooke is a photographic artist who posses more than just talent - she has a gift that allows her to create stunning images of every bride she shoots. She just knows it like you and I know how to breathe. You can see her incredible ability on her website blushbybk.com.
This past weekend it was her chance to be on the other side of the camera along with her sweetheart Steven. For them it was important to create a video as unique and classy as them and their wedding - of course nothing is more classy / romantic / beautiful than black and white - so - here it is...enjoy!

Jalene + Lincoln
Meeting Jalene and Lincoln for the first time this past January was like catching up with some old friends - glad chance brought us together - seriously! A talented writer and photographer herself (check out her blog) Jalene wanted simple - yet fun "vintage" style. Working along side Jessica Kettle Photography made it even easier (see her amazing photos here). Since that first meeting the anticipation of shooting and completing the edit of their wedding has been mounting! Above is the full prep and temple edit and below is the bit of video of just the two of them.

Scott + Kim
What a couple!!! I had way more fun that I should admit with these two - they made every piece of the video their own. And did it help that she was extremely scared of birds? Probably a little. Respect should be paid to Chad Briathewaite of Faces Photo, their photographer, who had already shot their engagements, but came along for the shoot. What a great guy who can make any shoot fun. I'm so very excited to share this video - thanks Scott and Kim!

Las Vegas Wedding: Haley + Chase
As the title says a Las Vegas wedding with the stars of the wonderful engagement video in San Diego. Chase and Haley - thank you for trusting me with the video on your wedding day!

The First Dance
Its always nice to be surprised when you have the chance to catch something new and fresh. That is pretty much what Jalene and Lincoln's wedding was all about. Although they had a more "traditional" first dance - they also prepared something a little more fun to show off their - well - fun side.

Kelli + Chrystian: The Date
Not the usual engagement session shot along side the photographer - It was just me and the couple giving it - it's own unique feel. Kelli and Chrystian were married last Saturday at the Hotel Park City. Coordinated by Soiree Productions it was an amazing wedding with some incredible details - I'll post some pics from their photographer, Logan, with ZumaPhoto, as soon as they're available - along with my video.

Miles Allphin; May 26, 2010
A quick video of my new little nephew. I made this from just a few clips I grabbed while visiting the little guy a couple of weeks ago. He was in the NICU for almost 10 days after being born. But now is very healthy happy little boy - as he was recently able to leave the hospital.

Anthony and Robyn; Engagement
This is about as unique of an engagement session as you can possibly get. Robyn is often Snow White or Belle to most little girls when she hosts princess parties in Las Vegas. These fun parties and the joy they bring to their guests are an important part of her life and so naturally she wished to incorporate her profession with Anthony's, who is a firefighter, into the shoot.
We worked that in the first part of the video and as the night went on we progressed into a more casual setting. Like a night time frozen yogurt scene - Enjoy!

Steve and Allie;Park City
Leaving no doubt that he is madly in love with his wife to be - Steve was genuinely himself and it was obvious how very happy he makes Allie.
If your in the process of considering booking or have already booked your engagement video - remember that the most important part is capturing whats unique about you and your fiancee. If you're afraid you don't have something "unique" - you do! And we'll make sure its obvious in the video that is made for you.
Unique to this couple was how EVERYTHING around them was secondary to each other. I had a great time with you guys and looking forward to the wedding in July. Shot along side Harmony Barker of Lindsay Jane Studios.

Andrew Wallace;Wakeology
So - I've never actually been able to wake boarded myself, I often feel, while watching others rock the wake, like I'm missing out, but my coordination skills stop when I leave the keyboard and computer behind.
Wallace is an incredibly talented rider and this video only briefly shows the immense amount of skill that he posses. It was my pleasure to shoot and edit the video - hopefully more to come - maybe live my wakeboarding dreams through proxy. Credit to: www.wakeology.com

Video Stills
A few times while editing I'll take a second to save a still frame from the motion of video that I've been capturing. While these are in no way intended to replace the print quality of the photos that your professional photographer can provide - they are fun candid shots, looking good enough for the web. I thought I'd share a few with you on this blog post.
Another great part about the video stills are showing off the photographer when they are in action - like this incredible still of Chad Braithewaite of Faces Photography. Great working with you buddy-

Late April Blizzard?
Enjoy this same day edit from a Salt Lake Temple wedding today - I was expecting rain and we got a lot of snow instead. What was really admirable, as you'll see in the video, the bride had a great attitude and ended up with what I feel is a really unique video. While I'm not usually a fan of slow motion - I really liked how it accented the snow - enjoy and let me know what you think!

It has been my privilege - honestly - to work with Soiree Productions. And it is an honor to be a preferred wedding vendor of theirs. This group of talented artists provide an end to end solution for all things relating to your wedding. Turn key is a great phrase when it comes to wedding planning and time and time again that is what I have seen with Soiree. Check out their blog for some examples of their work!

Cinema
I love movies! That I'm sure doesn't shock anyone reading this - but I really love good movies. Movies that move and inspire - especially movies that seem to go in different directions than what I'm expecting, which isn't hard considering how gullible I am. There have been times when the right movie just catches me at the right time and it clicks.
My top 6 movies? Here is the list that I've wanted to share for a long while - in no particular order:
Amazing composition and classic story. Previous to this movie the only version I knew was the 6 hour BBC version that my wife would watch when she would get sick. Maybe for that simple reason I like this shorter and much sweeter version. Visually Stunning!
Eye opening movie about human behavior, hope, and storytelling.
Life is what you make it - and when I tell the story of my life to my kids I want it to sound just like the story of the dad in this movie. Anything is possible -
This movie took me by surprise by how different it actually is. Extremely creative and interesting from beginning to end. Not a typical love story, but well worth watching.
Of course a good guy movie - but what Batman and its sequel have that have made it so different from the others is the solid story. It really connects with the background of Bruce Wayne and making Batman believable. This movie has changed the way superhero movies are done - but none may live up to the standard of this great original!
Music! Love the music in this movie - coupled together with great humor. Fun entertainment - that's it!
Here are some recent movies that I have also liked a lot and debated putting them in the top 6 - it is increasingly surprising to me how many great stories are still being told. I supposed each story is truely unique and everyone has a unique way of telling that story -
How does this apply to wedding videos? Good movies, whichever those are for you, we connect to because the people and emotions are real to us and that is what inspires me as a videographer. The realness, if that is a word, of what is happening or being candid is the result of capturing who someone really is - and that is my goal - to not fabricate a false impression of the day, but to show the joy of your day in your way - Thanks for the inspiration!

Backyard Reception
This reception ranks in the top 2 of the 2009 year! Seemed like a completely normal backyard reception - beautiful decor, line, food, and then... a dance that makes a dance at a wedding reception worth while. Now dancing isn't everyone's thing at the reception, but when caution is thrown to the wind and embarassing pretense is thrown out the window - it makes for great video! Enjoy the fun dancing clip above and the full reception video below to get a taste of both worlds- enjoy :)

Haley and Chase: Engagement
When I sat down with Haley to talk about what she wanted to do for her engagement shoot she wanted it to be green, fun, and with lots of bright colors. The only problem was we had between January and March to shoot the video and Vegas, where she is from, didn't fit that description - and unfortunately neither did the great snow state of Utah where I'm at. What did we do? She braved the long drive with her fiancee to San Diego the week I was there and we found some great places that just simply worked. You guys were great for making that long drive - was it worth it? For me absolutely YES!
Check out the photomotion highlight below using gideonphoto.com stills-

San Diego Highlight
The San Diego trip was too short! I was there with Jimmy and we had a blast shooting two engagement videos, one family video, and an amazing wedding! This is a fun highlight I threw together to preview the great moments of the trip. Look for more soon!

a shot in the dark
I have now accomplished one of my unwritten goals for the year. Shoot an entire video in black and white. Jimmy at gideonphoto.com and I had the idea, while working down in San Diego this week, of shooting at night using only natural light - Joy and Jeff are a great couple and she is due in May. This is just a taste of the many shoots we've done together this week as we prepare for the wedding on Saturday of another couple, Roselyn and Ben. Until then - enjoy!

James
Posed vs not posed - hmmmm.... the great photography question - what is your opinion?? Most say that they prefer to not be posed.
The truth is - most everyone needs to be posed or guided for good photography. I like to call it "composing" the shot. The most important part is to not appear un-natural, stiff, or most importantly resemble someone who you are not. A great photographer is one who can compose the shot without you even being aware of whats happening. When done right, it allows for the action to take place as if it were simply happening - the only difference being when directed by a good photographer you are the best looking you possible - who doesn't want that? Simply shooting on location at a great new barn or field doesn't ensure great pictures.
Why do I mention all this - because Jimmy Bishop of gideonphoto.com is one of those photographers. And the video above was shot entirely by him and I had a lot of fun editing it for him. See video... through a photographers eyes!

Dream Songs
More songs to add to the growing list of those I'd like to make videos to!
Artist: Future of Forestry
Song Name: "Slow Your Breath Down"
simple,fun,unique
Great for: Wedding day highlight video - from the bridal prep to exit - this would also great for a couple looking for a unique sound on an engagement video. Great band too!
Artist: Owl City
Song Name: "The Bird and The Worm"
upbeat, happy, different, owl city(how better to say it)
Great for: Engagement / Date video - I love Owl City. An evolution of cheesy music - I'm picturing a lot of fun stuff that could be played out to this song.

Redrock Engagement
Sweet little place in Southern Utah, with some amazing landscape, which gave a really unique feel to complete this unique couple's personality. Jill and Joe are a great match and shooting along side my good friend Gideon Photo made it easy to bring out on video their natural selves. Above is the video with Gideon's photos and below is the full video edit.

Tyson + Brittany
Today was the bridal show at the Grand America - if you stopped by our booth you may have missed me while I was filming this cool couple at the Salt Lake Temple. I love spending this time with couples right after they are married. Its almost as if they are removed from the cares of the world and given a short window where they are able to fully concentrate on each other and on their love for one another. It literally is my pleasure as a videographer to enjoy and capture these moments with them - like I did with Tyson and Brittany today.
...by the way for those I did see at the Bridal Show - it was great to talk with you!
Nate
